Edward Elric, also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist, is a fictional protagonist from the manga series Fullmetal Alchemist. His first appearance was in the manga series of the same name, Fullmetal Alchemist, created by Hiromu Arakawa.
Born to Hohenheim and Trisha Elric, Edward is a prodigy alchemist who lost his left arm and right leg in a failed attempt to resurrect his deceased mother using alchemy. He is driven by the desire to restore his and his brother Alphonse's bodies to their original forms.
After the failed transmutation, Edward bound Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. This prompted Edward to become a State Alchemist, earning the title "Fullmetal Alchemist," in order to gain access to resources and knowledge that would aid their quest. He's known for his intelligence, short temper, and strong sense of justice.
